A Long Shelf Life Shortens Yours

What’s the expiration date on the food in your fridge or on your shelf? Are the ingredients actual food? Chances are one or more ingredients are difficult to pronounce and far from natural. From the MSG (monosodium glutamate) added to make poor quality food taste better to flavorings, food colorings, additives, and I mustn’t forget the lighter fluid substance used in Chicken McNuggets.

If the food you are buying is not fresh and local, chances are it is laden with chemical after chemical. Fast and processed foods may save you time and money now, but it comes with a hefty price tag of your money and life later.

“Over half of all the bankruptcies in this decade can be tied to personal health emergencies.” President Bill Clinton (while campaigning on behalf of Hillary)

Going “cold turkey” off processed, canned, and fast foods doesn’t have to cause confusion or cost a fortune. You can begin reading labels, look to replace them with a healthier version, or better yet learn to cook from scratch. It’s easy and very affordable. As you begin to read labels you’ll see just how many foods have chemicals in them. MSG alone is known to cause weight gain, lead to insulin resistance and further complication such as Diabetes. Medical problems do not stop at food additives or artificial sweeteners. The list is long and the problems are many. The solution however is simple – read labels, shop the outer walls of your grocery store, buy at Farmers’ Markets, Co-Ops, CSA’s or grow what you can where you can. You’ll be happier, healthier and a tad bit wealthier for it.

May you live long and prosper!

VEGANSEXUAL – to be or not to be?

Vegansexual – a group of people who lead a cruelty-free lifestyle and prefer to be exclusively intimate with like-minded individuals.” Dr. Annie Potts, Co-Director for New Zealand Centre for Human-Animal Studies

Ever kiss anyone that smells like an ash tray? I can’t say I have or care to. I have however kissed someone who tasted/smelled like meat and/or chicken… UGH! Eating fowl (chicken) gives me foul breath. At least that’s what it did over a decade ago when I was still trying to eat it.

Many people walk around chewing gum and wearing deodorant day in and day in – neither one of these are healthy! Most chewing gum has artificial sweetener that wreaks havoc on your health, and deodorants… why block the precious lymph nodes with poison?

When we eat healthy,  breath and body odor are not a problem. I have found the older I get and cleaner inside I get, the harder it is for me to date a meat eater. I have been a vegetarian since the late 60′s… a lacto/ovo/pesca-vegetarian, but still a vegetarian. I also go days as a vegan. I dislike the taste and smell of meat in front of me, on my breath and on the breath of others. Not every meat eater has bad breath, however… odors and the exchange of bodily fluids do not stop at the mouth.

As my former employer would say, vegetarians not only smell better, they taste better. Your partner will appreciate this.

Isn’t it time you make morning breath a thing of the past?

MSG = Mood Swings Galore

MSG… AKA Monosodium Glutamate. It’s sole purpose is to make cheap poor quality, and often times fake food taste like real tasty food. However, it does so at the expense of your health, brain, behavior and more. It is a short term “solution” to long term detrimental problem. You can spend less on food, but expect the money “saved” now to be spent on medical bills and pharmaceutical drugs later.

Got headaches? Try eating real home cooked meals for a week and see what happens. Your memory not what it used to be? Read labels and avoid foods with MSG – it has been linked to problems such as Alzheimer’s.  Has your child been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD? Start feeding them real food and see what happens.

The problems are endless, the “cures” are many by deciding to eat or omit MSG. Eating healthy does not have to cause confusion or cost a fortune. A few organic grains, fruits, veggies and other wholesome foods bought in bulk can transform your health, and make eating healthy easy and very affordable. In general, food without labels is healthier – they may not have a long shelf life, but they’ll help lengthen yours.

~~peace, love and REAL food~~

Got a Junk Food Junkie In Your Home?

Children are not the picky eaters parents make them out to be. Last year I had the wonderful opportunity of caring for 4 grand nieces and nephews. I found after weaning them off the junk food, which only took a couple of days, they came to love REAL food – they also craved structure.

We crave what is in our blood, and it starts while children are in the womb. Many pregnant women eat everything BUT wholesome foods. Instead of using pregnancy as a green light to get fat, let it be the beginning of a wonderful, healthy life for you and your child.

Think long term on the health of you and your child. A healthy radiant child can’t possibly be created out of boxed, fast, canned, bagged, or processed food? There’s a reason women miscarry and children have behavior problems. Begin feeding your children wholesome foods to give life to the brain and body the way nature intended. Schools are chock-full of hyperactive medicated children. This doesn’t have to be! This is common sense stuff, but I am surprised by how many parents feed their kids everything BUT wholesome foods! This sets them up for craving unhealthy foods as an adult. Your food can be your pharmacy!

You wouldn’t build your dream home out of scraps would you? Then why build a junk food junkie!?

Eaters Remorse Got You Down?

“Everyone should be held responsible for what they eat, just as they are for what they drink when driving.” Jane Goodall

It’s been said, we are what we eat. However, it is more than that… we are what we eat, drink, absorb, think, and believe. So why wouldn’t we want to make it positive, great and healthy?

Think about what you eat before you eat it. If you think you will have “eaters remorse” you probably will. Before allowing your taste buds or emotions to eat you into oblivion or eaters remorse, ask yourself if it will bring you closer to health and your naturally good looks or farther away faster. This simple question has helped me and many others avoid certain foods or drinks, which in turn makes looking in the mirror the next day easier.

Eating healthy most days of the week and hours of the day and can do wonders at helping a person look and feel their absolute best without ever having to “diet” again. As we age, the months and years seem to fly by faster – before we know it, a decade has passed, wrinkles have appeared and clothes have gotten larger.

Think long term…
